Knock Shrine. County Mayo.

More dodgy plastic signs. Many of the buildings seemed to have a run down feeling to them, kind of like cheap seventies office blocks that have had their day. This is an actual toilet building, and as I stood taking this photo I could clearly hear the echoing voices of people inside the facilities. The building is on the main footpath to and from the car park, and it just seems wrong.

Knock. What can I say about the Knock Shrine.....
Knock is a big catholic religious location in Mayo. We popped by to have a look at it. The main area is filled with open spaces dispersed between various elements of seventies/eighties religious architecture. Knock was originally the location of some kind of vision around 1870, and is kind of like an Irish Lourdes, although perhaps without the healing thing. Anyway, the church confirmed the whole thing to be a bonified "miracle", so thousands and thousands of people come here every year. I'm generally pretty sceptical about this kind of thing, recalling all to well the "Moving Statues" craze in Ireland in the 1980s.
