They sold the old Central Fire Station on Pearse Street and it was turned into a bar called Fireworks. This, I guess, paid for the nice new Fire Station they built just behind the old site. This was probably a good idea, as the old gates were barely big enough to fit a modern fire engine through, having been built for horses quite some time ago. The original clock tower remains, but the apartments on the left are new additions that replaced a lot of the old block.
